Scrapbook Art
Scrapbook Art has exploded onto the scene over the last decade. Nearly everyone has heard of
scrapbooking and many people participate (maybe even you!). But, did you know that your scrapbooking supplies can be used for more than just your
typical scrapbook page? Scrapbook art has jumped out of the scrapbooks and onto the wall - it's hot home decor!
Scrapbook Art - Customized Calendars
You may have seen these before. Customized calendars have been floating around the scrapping world for some time. It's a great concept - rather than hang a
generic scenery calendar from your insurance agent, you can instead feature favorite family
photos and clever scrapbook art.
Most film developers now offer a digital solution for creating custom calendars. For not much
more than a typical calendar costs, you can have a professionally printed calendar created with
many of your favorite photos and even special dates and birthdays included.
Perhaps you want to go “old school,” you can still easily find calendar “blanks” where you can add your own
dates, photos, papers and embellishments. You could even save your calendar pages and add them to your scrapbook at the end of the year, a perfect way to document the year. A customized scrapbook art calendar would also make a great gift for a grandparent. You could even leave photo blanks each month in their calendar, and then send a monthly photo for them to add to the page. Fun and thoughtful!
Scrapbook Art - Decorated Clocks
There are several “naked” clock options available at craft stores or online just waiting for scrapbookers. These basic white
clocks are begging to be embellished with papers, photos and flat embellishments. Fresh and
funky numbers might decorate a modern clock or a series of round photos might adorn each of
the time spaces. What a perfect gift for a 12 year old or for a twelve year anniversary!
Scrapbook Art - Altered Letters
Basic wood and paper mache alphabet letters are available at most craft stores (very affordably). Altered letters are perfect for wall scrapbook art.
You could choose to use your initials, a child's name or other short words like “Dream,” “Baby” or “Hope”. To decorate the letters, simply add decorative scrapbook
papers to the front using decoupage glue and smoothing out any bubbles. If you want to embellish your scrapbook art letters more, you can add details using ribbon, lace, buttons, and other scrapbook embellishments. Scrapbook art decorated letters can be hung on a wall or placed on a shelf. Altered letters make a great baby gift,
especially if you know the new baby’s name.
Scrapbook Art - Put it on the Wall
Scrapbook pages don’t have to stay in those scrapbooks. Several places offer scrapbook frames (in a variety of sizes and shapes) that
allow a scrapbook page to be framed and displayed right on the wall. For a special event or a
special person, create a scrapbook art page specifically for a frame and then present it as a gift. This is a great sentimental idea for a wedding gift, a shower gift or even a new baby gift.
Interested in adding some dimension to your walls? If so, consider canvas art. Archival stretched canvas bases are sold at
many craft and scrapbook stores. You can paint on the canvas and decoupage papers and
embellishments directly to the surface. This is a great way to showcase more substantial items
that wouldn’t fit in a typical frame, such as children’s toys, sea shells, or keepsake jewelry.
As you can see, Scrapbook Art is a great new trend in scrapbooking circles. It's a really fun method to use those scrapbooking supplies in a new and different art form. I hope you'll give Scrapbook art a try - I know I will!
